IMG_0854 IMG_0849 IMG_0848[lang_ie] Bhí Marie Duffy ó Sheirbhís Páirceanna Náisiúnta agus Fiadhúlra istigh i dToraigh i dtús Bhealtaine chun oibriú lenár scoláirí mar chuid de Tionscadal Chaomhnú na dTraonach. Bíonn an traonach fós istigh i dToraigh ach ní bhíonn  móran acu ann agus is í aidhm an tionscadail seo ná timpeallacht fhóirstineach don traonach a fhorbairt agus a chaomhnú agus ní amháin istigh i dToraigh ach sna háíteanna eile a bhfuil an traonach fós iontu. D’oibrigh Marie agus na scoláirí, agus fiú amháin cuid de na múinteoirí go crua sna cuibhrinn ag cur préataí, a a thabharfaidh cumhdach do na traonaigh a thagann go Toraigh achan Earrach ó Thuaisceart na hAfraice. Bhí na hoibrithe thíos ar an chladach freisin ag bailiú leathaigh (feamainne) le cur ar na plandaí a chuir siad. Táthar ag súil go mór go n-éireoidh leis an tionscadal agus go mbeidh scairt an traonaigh le cloisteáil istigh i dToraigh go ceann tamaill mhaith eile.[/lang_ie]

[lang_en-uk]Marie Duffy of the National Parks and Wildlife Service was on Tory in the beginning of May to work with our students as part of the Corncrake Conservation Project. The corncrake still comes on Tory but there are not very many of them and the aim of the project is to develop and maintain suitable environments for the bird, not only on Tory  but wherever he is to be found. Marie and the students, and even some of the teachers, worked hard in the fields planting potatoes to give cover to the corncrakes when they return from North Africa in the Spring. The workers went down to the seashore to gather seaweed with which to fertilize the plants they had planted earlier. It is hoped that the project will be very successful and that the call of the corncrake will long be heard on Tory. [/lang_en-uk]
